Advanced Random Images  v4.3.9 - Help

Advanced Random Images Extension Help

v4.3.0+ will no longer work in preview mode. It must be uploaded to a server for the images to display properly (the images also need to be uploaded to the server)

The extention is broken down into three parts:
Action Selection
Image List
Image Properties

Action

This dropdown will select one of the four possible actions for the extension. These actions are Random Images, Daily Images, Random Slideshow and Sequential Slideshow.
Random Images - Displays one of the images from the Image List at random upon a page load or a page refresh. Works with the properties entered for the images. Does not work with the slideshow timer.
Daily Images - Displays one of the images from the Image List per 24 hour period. This image will be displayed to everyone viewing the page, changing once per 24 hour period. Works with the properties entered for the images. Does not work with the slideshow timer.
Random Slideshow - Display a slideshow of the images from the list at random. The interval between the slides is determined from the slideshow timer. The properties entered will not be used to display these images. Warning: Netscape v4.x cannot resize an image dynamically so if all of your images aren't the same size, it will display improperly.
Sequential Slideshow - Display a slideshow of the images from the list sequentially. The interval between the slides is determined from the slideshow timer. The properties entered will not be used to display these images. Warning: Netscape v4.x cannot resize an image dynamically so if all of your images aren't the same size, it will display improperly.

Slideshow Timer
This field is to change the default slideshow timer from 5 seconds to whatever number of seconds you enter. This field does not affect Random and Daily images.
Image List
This image list contains all of the images for the action which will be placed upon the page. The buttons above this field, from left to right, are "Add an Image", "Remove an Image", and "Add a folder".
Add an Image - pops up the file selector so you can navigate to find a specific image in the site to be included within the Action.
Remove an Image - removes the selected image from the Image List. If no image is selected, nothing will be removed.
Add a Folder - a folder selector popup will allow you to select an entire folder of images to add. All images of .gif, .jpg, .png and .jpeg are added to the list. If you want a different image extension you will have to select these individually. Also, no image files will appear in this popup, just the folders.
Subdomain:

Enter the subdomain of the site if you have the site not on the root of the domain. For instance, if you have your site setup to map to:
http://www.yourdomain.com/test/
you will need to enter:
test
in the subdomain entry. ARI uses absolute paths (from the site root) in accordance to what the server thinks the site root is. If you have a site with the site root above the server's site root, this entry will help bridge the differences in the absolute paths.

Image Properties:
The properties fields work only for the random and daily images and will not work for the slideshow actions. These fields are optional for the allowed actions.
Width:
This will manually set the width for the selected image.
Height:
This will manually set the height for the selected image.
Auto:
This is for Dreamweaver and UltraDev v4.01 users or better (if you have v4.0, get the update to enable this feature). This will automatically enter the width and height for all of the images.
Alt:
This sets the alternate text for tooltip popup. Also used in place of the image for those who have images turned off or aren't using them.
Border:
This sets the border of the selected image. Usually, you will want to set this to 0 if you have a link attached to the image.
Link:
This field sets the image to load an HTML page, you can also use the [Browse...] button next to this field to search your files for a file to associate with the image.
Target:
This determines where the link opens up to.
